Tax Lien Foreclosure Prevention

In March 2013, the Hartford City Council appointed a Tax Lien Task Force to assess the City's practice of selling outstanding real estate tax liens to outside investors--a practice which has resulted in an increasing number of foreclosures in Hartford neighborhoods.

The five-person task force, which included HCLF's Executive Director, issued a series of recommendations, many of which have been implemented by the Office of the Tax Collector.  HCLF continues to advocate for reductions in the sale of tax liens to outside investors.
